Mandate
To provide additional income through carbon revenues to improve livelihoods of disadvantaged, vulnerable and indigenous communities in general and women in particular.
Development, testing and scaling up of local financing and institutional arrangements for improving livelihoods through carbon finance mechanisms;
Strengthening institutional mechanisms to aid the sale of Certified Emission Reductions (CERs)/ Voluntary Emission Reductions (VERs), test carbon purchase transactions and accumulate experience in practical and technical measures for CDM project activities;
- Test and pilot how reforestation activities generate high-quality greenhouse gases emission removals that can be measured, monitored and verified and dissemination of best practices;
- Arrange micro credit and microinsurance from financial institutions to resource-poor farmers;
- Build partnerships with international and national research organisations and the results of such research would be fed into the projects for adoption by farmers to increase their returns.
- Strengthening of capacity of multiple stakeholders including farmers, governmental and non-governmental organizations through training and technical assistance to enhance their skills to take advantage of the global mechanisms;
- Conservation of biodiversity through reduced dependence on natural forests by producing wood for housing, construction and industry on degraded lands through afforestation and control soil&water erosion.
- To develop plantation and agro forestry models, which can provide multiple benefits to the farmers in respect of timber, firewood, NWFP, revenue from carbon credits and also from intercropping.
